- Congratulations to AdvanceVT's Dr. Karen Thole who has been named an ASME Fellow. The ASME Board of Governors confers the Fellow grade of membership in recognition of outstanding engineering achievements. Fellows are nominated by their peers (2004).
- We wish to recognize the Virginia Tech women scientists and engineers who received promotion and tenure this year. The following faculty were promoted to associate professor with tenure: Amy Bell (ECE), Jean Kampe (EF), Shirley Luckhart (BioChem), Jill Sible (BIO), and Ann Stevens (BIO). Ruby Cox (HNFE) and Susan Duncan (FST) were promoted to full professor (2004).
- Yilu Liu (ECE) has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) for her contributions to modeling and diagnostic techniques for power systems. Congratulations to Dr. Liu on this honor (2004).
- We would like to recognize and congratulate the women faculty who received awards at the Dean's Awards Reception for Engineering Faculty. Tonya Smith Jackson (ISE) received an award in the category of teaching innovation. Eileen Van Aken (ISE) and Carin Roberts-Wollmann (CEE) were both named Faculty Fellows for 2004.
- Congratulations to AdvanceVT's first Leadership Fellowship recipients. Awardees are: Dr. Brenda Winkel, Biology, Fralin Biotechnology Center, and Dr. Andrea Dietrich, Civil and Environmental Engineering (2004).

Awardees are: Lynn Adler from biology, Julie Dunsmore from psychology, Naira Hovakimyan from aerospace and ocean engineering, Linsey Marr from civil and environmental engineering, Kathleen Meehan from electrical and computer engineering, and Corina Sandu from mechanical engineering (2004).

- Congratulations to Dr. Sharron S. Quisenberry, the first woman to serve as dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Virginia Tech. Dr. Quisenberry joins us after serving as dean of the College of Agriculture at Montana State University and director of the Montana Agriculture Experiment Station (2004).
